The university student government

May 23rd will remain in the history of ASU as the official date of birth of the university student government. The constituent conference dedicated to the organization of ASU Student Union took place on May 23, 2005.

The initiators of the conference were the leaders of student councils of different departments. The necessity to unite the efforts to solve students' problems was one of the main reasons for creating the university student body.

Rashid Khunagov, President of ASU, Fatima Tughuz, pro-rector for extracurricular work at ASU, Irina Sergheeva, head of the Department for youth work at Maikop City Administration, and Aliy Khatkov, ASU trade-union leader, were elected to the presidium of the conference. The delegates at the conference were students of different university departments.

All the speakers at the conference promoted one main idea: students have common problems, interests, rights and duties, the exercising of which becomes possible there being a united student organization. According to the decision of the conference, May 23rd was named the official date of birth of ASU Student Union.

The draft bill of Union Regulations was discussed and approved at the conference; the main areas of work were identified. The functioning of ASU Student Union is supposed to cover all the aspects of student life: research work, cultural, informational, athletic and social activities.

The conference delegates decided not to elect one single chairperson to head the body, but four cooperating leaders whose commission will last till the next conference.
