The annual ethnolinguistic summer school "Adygland" is held at ASU

About 60 schoolchildren are participating in the cultural and educational project of the Adyghe State University - the ethnolinguistic summer school "Adygland". For the first time, the participants include not only children from Adygea, but also their peers from Turkey and the Karachay-Cherkess Republic.

The school opened last Saturday at the educational and industrial base of the university "Gornaya Legenda". In total, about 60 people became its students - these are students of grades 8-10, winners of city and district Olympiads in their native language.

The ethnolinguistic school will improve the level of proficiency in the Adyghe language, assess and expand knowledge of the history and culture of the Adyghe. Schoolchildren will be introduced to the history of Adyghe dialects, the secrets of making traditional clothing and the rules for wearing it, with the works of ethnodesigners who have received recognition at various competitions and fashion festivals. Children will be able to immerse themselves in the world of national cuisine, they will be told about the features of table etiquette and the traditions of Adyghe hospitality.

At thematic sites, children will learn how to properly organize "Adyghedzhegu" (national games), they will participate in master classes on Adyghe dances and chants, learn trimming, gold embroidery and mat weaving, and make a shichepshin (an ancient Circassian musical instrument related to stringed bows). As part of the cultural program, creative meetings, film screenings about the history and culture of Adygea, and an excursion to the Rufabgo waterfalls - one of the most picturesque and popular natural attractions of the republic - will be organized for school participants.

The project has been implemented since 2019 on the initiative of the Faculty of Adyghe Philology and Culture of ASU. The goal of the project is to popularize the native Adyghe language, increase its prestige in the modern world and deepen knowledge of traditional Adyghe culture.

In general, Adyghe State University carries out active scientific, educational and educational-methodical work to preserve, study and develop the Adyghe language, fundamental and applied research, an encyclopedic description of the ethnic culture of the Adyghe, and work on filling the corpus of the Adyghe language are carried out. With the participation of university teachers, textbooks for schoolchildren on the Adyghe language, culture and history of Adygea are created. The Center for Adyghe Studies has been created, where unique sources of knowledge on the history, culture and folklore of the Adyghe people, both their historical homeland and the Adyghe diaspora, have been collected and systematized. The international educational campaign "Adyghe Dictation", the International Competition of Literary Works for Children named after Kirimize Jane, and workshops on the reconstruction of the historical and cultural landscape of Adygea are held.

As part of the cooperation between the University of Duzce (Turkey) and the Adyghe State University, in 2013, a department of Circassian language and culture was opened at the Department of Caucasian Languages ​​and Cultures of the Faculty of Arts of the Turkish university. The inter-university program prepares bachelors, masters and postgraduates in the program "Circassian Language and Literature", which has been studied by more than 190 students over 10 years, most of whom are compatriots living in Turkey.
