RGS Lecture hall: “Adyghe historical toponyms of the mountainous part of Adygheya”

The new topic of the Russian Geographical Society meeting in Adygheya will be Adyghe historical toponyms of the mountainous part of the region.

The lecture will be conducted by Nurzhan Emikova, senior researcher at the Slavic-Adyghe Cultural Relations Department of the T.M. Kerashev Adyghe Republican Institute of Humanitarian Studies.

Nurzhan Emikova is the author of fundamental work “Historical toponymy of Western Circassia.

The materials are based on Russian documents of XVIII–XIX centuries”. The first part “Abadzekhiya” was published by ARIHS in 2021. The work has immediately become in demand among local history guides, linguists and anyone who interested in the history of the Republic.

The Russian Geographical Society has clarified:

— In the process of writing the book, the author used historical, ethnographic works, military and topographical descriptions of localities and folklore texts. In total, she has linked about one thousand Adyghe toponyms to the modern map of the region.

The meeting with Nurzhan Emikova will take place at the Headquarters of the public support of the All-Russian political party “United Russia” at 18:00 on April 17. Maykop, Proletarskaya street, 449.
