Education Event Видео

From March 9 to March 14, the VIII International Caucasian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO) is being held at the Adyghe State University, in which more than 130 schoolchildren from six countries of the world – Armenia, Abkhazia, Belarus, Peru, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as 22 subjects of Russia take part.

The honorable right to “light” the symbol of the Olympiad – the tree of knowledge – were awarded to a schoolboy from Adygea Danil Matveev and Varvara Kovaleva from the Astrakhan region – the youngest participant in the CMO-2023.

The Olympiad will be held in a full-time distance format: schoolchildren who cannot take part in the Olympiad in person will solve competitive tasks online. The winners will be determined in two age categories: junior league (grades 8-9) and senior league (grades 10-11).

The organizers of the CMO are the Caucasian Mathematical Center of the Adyghe State University, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Adygea, the non-profit partnership “Center for New Technologies in Education” Matema”.

Tasks are developed by the best composers of Olympiad problems. Among the jury members are well-known Russian mathematicians and teachers, coaches of the Russian national team in mathematics, gold and silver medalists of the International Mathematical Olympiad of different years.

The Caucasian Mathematical Olympiad is one of two international mathematical Olympiads for schoolchildren held in Russia. The high level of the event is confirmed by the results of the participants in the most prestigious mathematical tournaments. In 2022, the winners and prize-winners of our Olympiad won twelve medals of the International Mathematical Olympiad: four silver and eight gold medals,” said Daud Mamiy, chairman of the organizing committee of the CMO, Rector of ASU.

The event is held with the support of the general sponsor – PJSC “Sovcombank”. The Olympiad is sponsored by ITV, one of the leaders in the domestic market for developing software for security and video surveillance systems.

“We are grateful to our partners for their help in organizing the Olympiad. First of all, PJSC “Sovcombank”, who acted as the general sponsor of the Olympiad, and personally to the first deputy chairman of the board of the bank, Sergey Khotimsky. ITV company, which has supported the Olympiad for many years. This event is important for the development of mathematical education, it is designed to unite gifted schoolchildren not only from the southern regions of Russia, but also from neighboring countries,” the rector added.

The Olympiad is aimed at forming a single cultural and educational space, including the regions of the South of Russia, the Caucasian countries and the states of the Black Sea basin, strengthening friendly ties between schoolchildren who are passionate about mathematics in Russia and other countries.

As part of the cultural program, schoolchildren are introduced to the nature, history and cultural traditions of Adygea, popular science lectures on mathematics and natural sciences, entertainment and sports events are held. During the days of the CMO in Maikop, the mathematical quest “Integral around the city” is traditionally held. This year the game will take place on March 11-12 and will be dedicated to buildings and architecture from different eras.

The Caucasian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO) was established in 2015 and is held annually in March at the Adyghe State University. It is included in the list of Olympiads and other intellectual and (or) creative competitions, events aimed at developing intellectual and creative abilities, approved by the Ministry of Education of Russia and has received support from the Presidential Grants Fund three times.

Over the years of its existence, the CMO has significantly expanded its geography – in different years, schoolchildren from 16 countries took part in it, and mathematicians from Russia, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Iran and Turkey participated in the work of the task committee and the jury of the Olympiad. Among the permanent members of the jury are well-known Russian mathematicians and teachers, coaches of the Russian national team in mathematics, gold and silver medalists of the International Mathematical Olympiad of different years.

The chairman of the jury and task committee of the Caucasian Mathematical Olympiad is Pavel Kozhevnikov, associate professor of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University), member of the jury of the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren in mathematics, gold medalist and then one of the leaders of the Russian national team at the International Mathematical Olympiad, candidate of physical and mathematical Sciences. Chairman of the Central Subject-Methodological Commission of the All-Russian Olympiad for School Students in Mathematics Nazar Agakhanov – Associate Professor of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Chairman of the Jury of the All-Russian Olympiad for School Students in Mathematics, member of the Coordinating Council of the International Mathematical Olympiad, laureate of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of education, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences.
